Resting in the garden holding a small bouquet of lilies, Camille simply
sparkles. Her mossy hair and petal garments help camouflage her when the cat
comes searching.
Created specifically for the
Flowers, Fairies and Fiber Fancies
event May, 2007 Camille is a two day cloth doll workshop to create an
elegant Flower Fairy. Her costume and wings are adapted from silk flower
petals and is embellished with lavish beadwork and fiber fancies while her
delicate shoes are made of thin leather with beaded straps. Techniques
taught in this workshop include steps to attach limbs for a natural body
contour, how to shape hands realistically with graceful poses while creating
individually wired fingers with delicate finger nails, to manipulate various
silk flowers for an illusionary costume embellished with beadwork and
fibers, shape a wild hair-do using fancy yarns and fun fibers and create
unique exotic pose able wings. Facial details will be taught with a
step-by-step method focusing on proportion, needle sculpting, how to shape
and draw individual features, shading and highlighting, and choosing makeup
colors to match her costume. Seated, Camille is 9 inches in height but
alternate pattern pieces will allow the opportunity to create a wide variety
of fairies seated, standing, and flying, and students will learn how to
adapt the body to show a doll in motion. Additional pattern pieces will also
be included for beginner dollmakers to sew a simple torso and mitten hands
which can also be wired and made to appear as individual fingers without
“the work.” This fun filled workshop will be suitable for dollmakers of all
levels.
